Pre-Shipment Considerations

What do I need to consider when requesting a shipment?
You need to consider the following:

  1. What type of shipment do you have? Are you completing the proper paperwork ?
  2. Are you sending an outbound shipment or receiving an inbound shipment?
  3. Do you have a preferred carrier that you can provide justification for? If so, please note your preference on your request for shipment.
  4. Have you fully completed the proper paperwork for the type of shipment that you are trying to complete?
  5. Are your items clearly and properly addressed with the proper forwarding and return addresses?
  6. Have you verified the address and zip code of the destination address for your shipment?
  7. Have you properly itemized each of the contents of your envelope, package or box? If not, your package may be delayed or stopped by domestic carriers or by international Customs officials.
  8. Does your shipment need to be insured? Review Section D2d of manual issuance 26101-42-F - Shipping Policies and Procedures to assist you.
  9. Does your shipment require dry ice? Did you make sure that you have enough dry ice in the container to last the duration of the transport?
  10. Are your infectious substances properly packed in United Nations (U.N.) class 6.2 packaging? If not, we cannot pick them up.

What can cause delays to my shipment?
Your shipment will be delayed if you do not

  1. complete the proper paperwork or
  2. complete the proper paperwork fully and legibly with forwarding and return addresses verified (including city, state, zip codes and country). or
  3. describe and itemize the content of your package.
