You can go screen property at the Surplus Yard where you can expect to find used furniture (including chairs, file cabinets, furniture, credenzas, etc.) and used large lab equipment (including refrigerators, hoods, etc.). This property is available at no charge to government employees only. Government contractors cannot remove government property from the Surplus Yard unless their respective administrative or contracting officer signs for the property.

When can I go screen property at the Surplus Yard? How do I get to the Surplus Yard?
You can screen property at the Surplus Yard between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday (starting on July 1, 2019 and ending on October 21, 2019 the NIH Supply Center is opened from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm Monday to Friday) where they get new items daily. All screening must be done in person as property is available at no charge on a first come, first serve basis. The Surplus Yard does not take phone orders. To get to the Surplus Yard from Route 355, turn onto South Drive. Go to the first stop sign and make a left onto Center Drive. Go straight through the first stop sign and turn right (about 40 yards after stop sign) into the parking area for Building 14G. You will run directly into the large white signs on the enclosed fenced area of the Surplus Yard.

What do I need to remove property from the Surplus Yard?
In order to remove property for official use after screening at the Surplus Yard, you need to bring your NIH or government ID with you. When you find items that you want to remove for official use, you will tag these items and complete a NIH Form 514 Property Utilization Record of Non-Accountable Property Issued. After you complete the form, you can transport or arrange to transport the property back to your business area for official use. Although property at the Surplus Yard is free , transporting the property back to your business area for official use is at your expense. Remember to bring your Custodial Account Number (CAN) to cover transportation costs if you are not able to transport all of the items that you desire back to your business area for official use.
